I created the Google Form above as a tool to reach out to the parents in my class at some other time than dismissal. At my school we are given one paid prep a month to hold a classroom workshop for parents before the school day begins. While I love this time, many times I have an agenda of items I want to discuss and think are important and parents have another. My goal for these sessions is to discuss topics and answer questions that are relevant to them. This form is reflective of some of the questions and concerns that have been brought up recently. I think that using a form like this, or possibly one that is less focused, would allow me to collect information before the workshops so I can build a workshop that appeals to most parents. I can also see using this form for kids too! The students could log on at home with their parents and help me to decide on the next class read aloud or the topic for the next shared writing piece. I love the idea of involving all members of my class and their families so that decisions reflect everyone’s ideas and needs.
