The Xtranormal video I created explores how to deal with a bully. This is something that we are focusing on school wide now. We began a bucket fillers initiative and are encouraging all students to engage in random acts of kindness. My second grade students have had a lot of questions about the right and wrong ways to deal with a bully. I wanted to create a video that really drives home the point that when you get a grown up involved, bullying can be stopped. I think my students will really love this xtranormal video and will be able to take something away from it.
I think that creating an xtranormal video is a great way to have students play out conflict resolution situations. This tool can also be used to create short teaching skits that will grab student’s attention. Students would love to hear funny characters present a lesson rather than their teacher every once and a while. These videos remind me a bit of Brainpop jr. videos, which k-2 students LOVE! I think this has an edge up on Brainpop because you can custom create the content for your students.
