I have used Wordle before and I absolutely love it. This is a Wordle that I have been using with my second grade class for 3 years! So many times when kids are going through the process of writing with dialogue they get stuck on said. Every other sentence ends with he or she said. I know that this is common for kids who are just beginning, but that does not make it ok. I always tell my students that using other words for said adds feeling to their writing and brightens it up! I think Wordle is a great tool for "brain dumping" information on any given topic. I have used Wordle to create a list of features of nonfiction and mystery books, character traits and math problem solving terms. I have even printed Wordles out and had students highlight addition words in one color, subtraction words in another. Another activity I used with Wordle was having children guess the topic. Kid think Wordles are fun and exciting and so do I! I think that whenever you use a new tool with your students you have to introduce it with the level of respect and excitement that you want your students to have for that tool. In doing that, I have had great success with many new tools in my classroom!
