Reflection

I think that the wiki templates are a very useful tool for teachers. Many times when students are absent we have to run to the copy machine to copy notes, homework assignments and worksheets that were missed by the absent child. We also have to have it ready for pick up by a parent or sibling at some point during the school day. The template I created is a digital copy of a paper version I use in my classroom when students are absent. It lists the subjects for the day, the lesson topic, pages needed, activities completed and homework assigned. Parents usually find this a great, organized way to catch their kids up. For me it requires very little management (besides making copies of the sheet).
I think using wiki templates is a great way to cut down on time, repetition and waste. For example if I have multiple students absent I can post this form once on my wiki space and all of the parents can access the information for their child and save a trip to the school.
I can also see using a template for a weekly or monthly newsletter posted to my wiki space. My printed monthly newsletter follows the same format each month. I use Microsoft Publisher and change only the text so that it matches our events and studies. It would be much easier and environmentally friendly to create a template on my wiki space where parents could access the newsletter.
